Quick Observation

It’s hard to believe from the valley but there’s a strong inversion, blue sky, sunlight and powder up there! We headed up into Big Y for a sled mission and amongst the sea of sastrugi and wind effect there’s sheltered terrain with great powder riding. We found the best riding in side gulley features on south aspects. It’s frigid down at Fraser camp with -20c, cloud and flat flat light. Above the cloud layer (1400m) visibility became unlimited and temps warmed up to -10c. The sun was out and you could feel the solar input. The forecast winds didn’t arrive today. Avalanche danger felt low today and travel skills rather than avalanche hazard guided our terrain choice. We felt comfy sledding on tree line and alpine features and saw no signs of instability. Returning to the valley felt like re-entering a cold cruel world. There are some big creek holes on the access to Big Y / Big Blue!
