We skied Little Crowfoot glacier yesterday. Ski quality was good a treeline in protected areas and wind effected in open areas and in the alpine. The day started out clear, calm and cold (-19C at valley bottom) and got progressively warmer and cloudier throughout the day. It was -8C, overcast, with moderate to strong winds out of the west by 15:30. Travel was excellent on a supportive base, ski penetration was 5 to 10cm. Above the canyon (2380m) the snow was wind effected with thin wind slabs noted on both north and west aspects. HS = 135cm. Coverage on the moraines below the glacier was variable, with 240cm of snow on the glacier. We noted a size 1.5 in the canyon and a size 2.5 on east aspects below the Onion (non-ski terrain), but none of the avalanches looked to be younger then 48 hours. Again for good turns stick to sheltered areas at treeline.
