Zoa sub peak north

matt-johnson1989, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

Approach from the parking lot was hard packed and icy. Graupel Snow falling at the parking lot turned to fluffy snow at the pipeline. Treeline has lots of I've bombs lingering in the branches. Snow surface improved after gaining the ridge top. Took shelter from the strong north east winds for lunch in some trees before continuing to the sub peak where we dug a pit on a north aspect. ECT17 produced a collapse about 17 cm down. Didn't cross the column and didn't slide downhill. Snow was 2 finger density on the top 17cms to 1 finger/pencil/knife density quickly. Could not pull the column over with a shovel pull. Made fresh tracks down to the tree line on great snow. Regained the ridge and on the descent the sun came out for some great views. Snow falling during the day made for nice riding down the pipeline to the summer parking lot. I ran into a tree and a chunk of snow and ice fell on my head. Glad I had a helmet.
