Bonnington Range

steve.tersmette, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

We completed the Bonnington traverse Sunday March 17. With the sun and rapid daytime warming we observed small natural avalanches on all aspects starting around noon. This was following three days of very stable stable conditions with cooler cloudy weather. When we had to pick a descent from the ridge above Barrett lake, we chose the densest trees we could to avoid any kind of open terrain. Our suspicions of a rapidly changed Avi forecast were confirmed back at the road Sunday afternoon. Folks obviously paid attention as Barrett lake the trail in and the Porto Rico parking area were deserted. Play safe as the snowpack transitions!
