Mosquito Creek

Tom Wolfe, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Mountain Conditions Report

Had a beautiful day of skiing up Mosquito Creek today on sunny south facing slopes off of the Watermelon ? ridge. It was cold in the morning, -17°C, but warmed up quickly to -7°C, and was very calm with no signs of recent wind.

The snow depth (HS) was quite variable compared with the sheltered shady skiing we did yesterday a little further north, less than a meter in most places with facets and crust layers in the lower 3/4. With careful skiing we were able to avoid hitting rocks, in no small part due to the strong supportive crust which had about 20 cm of low density snow on top.

We had one loud whoompf at 2600 m, S aspect but otherwise no signs of instability. Again, there were tracks all over the place on some pretty impressive steep rolls with no signs of avalanche activity natural or skier related.

Regards,
Tom Wolfe
Mountain Guide ACMG/IFMGA
