Hector

A mix of conditions up on Hector today. It remained cold for most of the day above the treeline. Even with the sun out, it was freezing in the Alpine with the windchill. It was much warmer below treeline, with the snow starting to soften by late afternoon. The snow was generally pretty good on the glacier, it's crusty and icy just below the col, but the more sheltered slopes further down had some decent snow. From the parking lot to little hector it's very crusty, ski crampons certainly helped on the way up. There was lots of old wet avalanche debris by the waterfall, and some more recent avalanche activity off Little Hector. You can see the debris in the 1st image. We did scramble up to the summit, but it's a tricky ascent in current conditions and we opted to rappel to get down.
