A lingering problem

enjoyed a day down in the Groundhog lake area. There was wind affected snow up high and we found good powder in the trees. We found the January 30 surface hoar down 40cm. It was reactive in our tests and found a sledder accidental avalanche from yesterday on this layer. We were cautious when entering areas that don't see regular traffic. Found the goods in the trees, had some sticks and smiles.

Sometime on Saturday, a sledder accidental avalanche was triggered. it looks like the rider was coming off the ridge top and broke a cornice onto the slope below. The slide was a size 2 and could have had serious consequences. The avalanche slide on the buried surface hoar layer from January 30th.
