S2S #2 and Spur

rjohnston, Monday 6th February, 2023 3:40PM

Skied #1 on the EC map and then over to spur and back to the road. Despite hazard being considerable, we saw minimal instability. We were able to cut a few small slabs on convexities but they didn't really carry, the new snow seemed well bonded. We did see cracking on the skin track. Snow above 1300m was decent and got progressively worse the further down we went. A MIN report from last week in the area mentioned death by a thousand alders and this is a very accurate description of the approach. Lots of creek crossings and bushwhacking. Similar fun on the way out as many of the drainages aren't filled in. Travel was generally slow and wet. Later in the day we started seeing some massive tree bombs on the way out.
