Moar hoar

bross_mmkay, Thursday 11th February, 2021 10:05AM

No signs of instability on ski tour up but all it took was a quick dig by hand to see the buried surface hoar down 45cm at 1550m elevation north aspect in open trees. 15-20cm One finger stiffness snow is now present on the suface hoar, with some fist soft in the surface. Sun crust 2cm on south aspects buried under 2cm. Expected slab triggering today but dropping a 71lb cornice into a north facing avalanche start zone did not produce any results. Nonetheless we stayed on our toes and a well exectued ski cut at 1800m made an isolated size 1 slab 10 meters wide down ~50cm. Experienced a decent wumnfpfphsft at 1350m on the ski down, or my mind was playing tricks on me.
