Sloppy on Ridge 2000

southrockies, Thursday 21st December, 2023 3:50PM
We suspected it to be poor conditions are were not surprised! Snowpack depths at our high point of 1750 m were 140 cm. The upper 10 to 15 cm was wet snow, and the rest of the snowpack to the ground was moist. The melt-freeze crust from early December (buried Dec 5) is down 50 cm. The temperatures were warm all day, with a reading of +3.5 at 1750 m. There were some light southwest winds but no snow transport. The Alpine was obscured with clouds throughout the day. We did not see any new avalanches in Fish Bowl but did see a few wet loose size 1 to 1.5 on Mt Fernie.
