Quick Observation

We did an optimist attempt to ski the glacier on Oscar Peak. We found summer instead. We realized quickly in the morning that the snow did not freeze overnight. At around noon the snow surface at 1000m was already extremely moist. We heard lots of avalanche activity happening on steep north-facing slopes and some larger ones going down on the south aspect. We noticed a small wet loose slab on our way back in the south open path which probably happened around 12:30. During our ski down we notice that wet slabs were starting to form under our skis on the top 10cm of the snowpack. We ski down at around 1 PM and expect that this layer would grow as the day kept warming up.
