Ramshorn Peak

Rode to the East Face of Ramshorn.  A few dry loose and one cornice collapse on the typicaly heavily corniced N/S running ridge. The cornice likely failed during the warm up over the weekend.  The long time local rider I was with said that the face typically sheds and was surprised at the lack of debris from previous avalanches. Itseems likely that the face was stripped by the south winds accompanying the Pineapple Express storms this season.  We gave a wide berth to this steep rocky face (~10,000' ) which was still being loaded by gusty winds. Besides the wind slabs and the steep, rocky slopes which likely contain some PWL or crust closer to the surface, we experienced no signs of unstable snow other than lots of dry loose moving ahead of the sled. Above 8500' snow depth was 1.75 to 2 meters deep. See attached snowpit.
