Steep Creek

Great skiing on open mellow slopes off of the SE aspect of The Dome. Very shallow snow coverage in trees with a lot of early season hazard to navigate around. Whumpfing and shooting cracks by Darkside Lake (1690m).

Most notable size 2- avalanche described above. Smaller 1-1.5 avalanches observed on northerly aspects around rocky features.

Test Pit: 2mm surface hoar overlies 70cm fist - 4 finger density snow. 5cm thick crust sits below this with depth hoar size 4-8mm to ground. Observed facets above crust on solar aspects. Compression test moderate with sudden results below crust.
