Quick Observation
The Duffey rolled out the crusty carpet for us visiting Vancouver Islanders so we felt right at home! Truly heinous skiing conditions in the Cayoosh zone and likely many more places around. The 10 mm surface hoar on 5 cm of soft, faceted powder we found on the crust at around 1600 m and above took some of the pain away, but access and egress through the cutblock, trees, and boulder field was the stuff of nightmares. The crust was 30 cm thick at 1850 m, by the way. We saw tons of ski boot tracks throughout these lower sections. This made so much sense that one of us followed suit and had a slightly more relaxed walk out than the other who pushed through on skis without a significant speed advantage. At least the crusty carpet stayed white instead of us painting it red! Was touch and go a few times there.
