Quick report
5 inches of new snow, with no additional snowfall during the day. New snow has fallen on a variety of surfaces including crusts and near surface facets on sheltered terrain at lower and middle elevations. This variety will create new snow instability as the main storm moves in this evening. These conditions are similiar to the rest of the Greys, which will see a mixed bag of avalanche conditions including wind, storm and although unlikely, the potential for persistent slabs. Wanted to check the snowpack of the large avalanche paths east of the creek as the area is very popular for snowmobile use. Fairly decent snowpack, but rapid loading will add a lot of stress to mutliple buried layers of concern.
Snowpack
Wanted to dig on one of the large slide paths East of Granite Creek. Found an overall right side up snowpack with no propagation during stability tests.
7500' SE aspect HS: 120cm ECTN11 @ 105cm on new/old interface on a stout melt freeze crust. ECTN18 @ 82cm on 1mm facets below thin, breakable melt freeze crust.
