Great day skiing at the burn below Emma Peak today. North and west aspects were skiing good with powder still to be found. Sun crust layers noticeable on southern aspects. Recorded below zero degree conditions until 16:30 roughly. The ski down the slope above Silver King was very sun affected and made for tough skiing conditions and grabby snow.
Sunny skies but cold temperatures all morning and early afternoon. small breezy kept temps down. Still cool in the shade.
Test pit dug at the top of The Burn in 5 Mile Basin. Air temperature of -4, 22 degree slope approximately. Performed extended column and column test. Snowpack was overall quite dense below the storm slab layer. Test Results: ECTN 20 at 25cm ECTN 24 down 36 cm CTM 12 resistant planar down at 23 cm, bed of 2 mm decomposing particles CTM 13 resistant planar down at 36 cm, bed of 1 mm decomposing particles Fist to 13 cm, 4 fingers to 20 cm, 1 finger to 45 cm, pencil to 80 cm and pencil plus below 80 cm
