We were up at the WTH Jan 22nd-24th.
22nd: Poor visibility on the ski up the the hut. The skin in is pretty bare, and icy in sections. About 140 cm base at 1700m. Multiple 0.5-1 wet loose below overhanging features (rocks and trees), lots of tree bombs, and evidence of pinwheels. (See image 2)
23rd: Variable visibility throughout the day. About 10 cm of low density snow overnight, trace amounts throughout the day. Low winds in the morning, picking up throughout the day. Storm snow appeared to be binding well to layers below. In sheltered areas hard turns sent off some sluffing that did not propagate to lower layers or travel very far. Good skiing on S-SW runs from the ridge into lower Marriot lake. Heavier snow on SW faces above the hut. We came across size 2 wet loose coming down one of the gulleys we skied, looked to be a few days old. (Image 1)
24th: Visibility got worse from 0800 on. After the warmer weather that we saw while we were at the hut, the ski out was very icy and sketchy. Looked like someone ditched their skis/board and opted to walk out leaving lots of post holes. Too crusty/icy to cut your own way through the woods. Helmets were a must. Trace amounts of new snow overnight, light winds. No new signs of instability at tree line.
