Green light on the forecast today and we made the most of it with a push up to the Castlecrag zone.
We staged snowmobiles at snowline near the 12km mark on the Comox Lake East Fork and were blessed with consistent coverage and cruisy sled travel thereafter.
Skinning up was also straightforward from below treeline to alpine elevations. Hard tree drippings in the forest and shallower ski penetration on wind-affected features higher up were our only minor issues.
In the alpine, wind had filled leeward features and draws in the terrain with as much as 30 cm of dry, well-settled snow. This was mixed with areas of exposed bulletproof crust, mainly at ridgetop. On our descent, we noticed surface snow became moist below 1500 m.
Concerns for avalanches were low, so as long as the line works with current coverage and surface conditions, we're thinking GO!
