Nak Thar Col

South Coast Inland

Skinning was feasible right from the parking lot east of Zopkios. Coverage down low and in the trees was decent even for skiing. Snowpack felt nicely consolidated and stable with around 15cm of powder on top. Wind loaded pockets in open terrain at about 1650-1700m. The snow in and immediately leading to the col was windscoured. Cornices were forming along the north-east facing ridge of Nak Peak. Nak bowl appeared thinly covered and rocky, thus we skiied down the ridge just south of the bowl but north of the drainage. This area was holding premium powder down to 1500m. Further down there was a crust with about 10cm of powder coverage. The snow does not quite cover the alders closer to pipeline road, but this certainly adds to the fun. Pipeline road skiied nicely like a groomer with some occasional rocks.
