Avalanche Information

Size 2.5 skier accidental just outside of the Lake Louise Ski Area boundary in Lipalian 3. Two snowboarders were both on slope, ~15m from the top, when they observed cracking around them within the snow surface. They immediately were able to ride out of the avalanche to the riders right, out of harms way. Average depth of 60-80cm (130cm deepest). 40-50m wide at the top, 80-100m wide mid slope and ran 250m. Failed to ground on a re-loaded bed-surface (previously failed to ground on Dec 23). If venturing off the ski resort into the backcountry, always carry avalanche gear (transceiver, probe and shovel) at the very least. This was an extremely close call!
