Short day in the Bonningtons today. Got lucky and the rain turned to snow right as we arrived at 11. The crust extended to at least 1900 m which was our high point for the day and it had 10-15 cm of new snow on it. We dug a profile on an east aspect at 1900 m and found the surface hoar buried 80cm deep and we got sudden, hard compression test results on it. It was snowing all day with moderate west wind so we avoided lee slopes and had a good, albeit soggy day in the hills.
