Bunny Flat and the Old Ski Bowl

A small weather system brushed the uppermost elevations of Mount Shasta, delivering a trace of new snow. However, nearly all that snow has been transported away by strong northwesterly winds. Small, isolated wind drifts may lurk high in the alpine. The cooler temperatures have kept surfaces hard and firm on the upper mountain and present a slide-for-life hazard. Conditions soften and become more friendly around 9,000 feet and below. 

A few recent small to large rocks were observed in the Old Ski Bowl that likely fell off the upper mountain sometime in the last 24 hours. A friendly reminder to keep an eye to the sky and wear a helmet if traveling in terrain with overhead hazards.  

Consistent snow travel still exists to and from Bunny Flat. However, snow is melting fast! Launching a snowmobile can be done, but rocks, dry ground, and vegetation must be navigated. Please park all trailers below the bathrooms at Bunny Flat. All in all, spring conditions are blooming, and the mountain is offering up some all-time spring riding. Remember to always pack the essential gear, use appropriate travel techniques, and stay alert for changing conditions.
