Below treeline there was about 4" of relatively dry light powder on top of a mostly ski supportable rain crust. No or light wind during my tour (12pm - 330pm) on the SE aspects below treeline. It was possible to stomp through the rain crust in places when skinning up, but it was supportable when descending. New snow was mostly unconsolidated and my skis would occasionally slip downhill on the rain crust underneath when sidehilling on slopes steeper than 25 degrees. Boots would penetrate through the crust, with soft wetter snow underneath, penetration variable from shin to knee depth. Above treeline consisted of sections of wind scoured supportable crust that was hard to get an edge into and small wind packed drifts of new snow. Wind above treeline was breezy and gusty from the west, with obvious wind transport occurring across the ridge. I only observed a few hundred feet above treeline before descending. There was just enough new snow on the crust to make the descent below treeline quite enjoyable. Ski edges would touch the crust when turning, but not break through, making for fast fun skiing, even on lower angle slopes. Temperature stayed just below freezing during my tour, with overcast skies. Powder was still cold by the end of the afternoon with no sun crust.
