Gray Butte

On both the east and west aspects of Gray Butte, I found a 4 finger hardness slab about 4-6 inches thick above 6-8 inches of fist hard dry snow atop a crusted bed surface. While I did not observe any signs of instability at this location, we are receiving observations of avalanches from the public. What these observations have in common is that they happened above treeline where temperatures were colder and winds were higher. This allows for wind to transport snow onto leeward aspects and form denser slabs.
