Mount Shasta
Pericolo valanghe
In sintesi
The avalanche danger is LOW for all elevations and aspects. Keep your peepers peeled for small, isolated wind slabs above treeline from a stiff, northwesterly wind moving snow around yesterday. Near and below treeline, breakable crust and/or sticky snow is possible. Put on your knee braces.
Avalanche Discussion
We're going to stop talking about the December 9th weak layer of buried graupel. No avalanches have occurred on this layer since 12-11-22, and stability tests have been stubborn to unreactive. Distribution of the weak layer is largely near treeline on all aspects in wind protected areas. The weak layer will preserve best in shady terrain on the north half of the compass. This layer might be done for the season, or may wake up with another big load of snow. We will monitor and provide an update prior to the next storm. If curiosity gets the best of you, look for it by digging a snow pit 2-3 feet deep and tell us what you find!
