Avalanche danger is low and avalanches are unlikely throughout the forecast area. Be aware of rock and icefall and firm and icy surface conditions on Mount Shasta.

The last snowfall in the Mount Shasta zone was on January 7th. Since then we've had warm temperatures, lots of sunshine, and some wind. Recorded wind speeds were strong to gale force yesterday and isolated blowing snow was observed. There's generally not enough soft snow available for wind slab development, especially on southerly aspects that have been going through a melt freeze cycle. Strong NE wind is forecasted to continue through today and will keep the snow surface firm and travel above treeline difficult.
