In sintesi

Avalanche danger is moderate. You may be able to trigger wind slab avalanches in steep, leeward terrain. Stay clear of cornices. Be prepared for sub-zero wind chills.

Most of the new snow has fallen and much has been blown. Not much more weight will be added to the snowpack today. Natural avalanches have not been seen and are unlikely today. Human triggered avalanches are still possible. Stay clear of cornices and evaluate steep, leeward terrain carefully as you transition to above treeline regions. Pay particular attention to more extreme, unsupported slopes. Human triggered avalanches are possible.

Test for wind slabs by stomping on wind drifts and roll-overs in safe terrain. If you see blocking or shooting cracks, then wind slabs may be present in terrain near you.

Avalanche Discussion

Let your faucets drip, throw an oak log on the fire, and wear your puffy jacket if venturing outdoors. It's cold out there. Prepare for below zero wind chills. This is not the time to skimp on extra layers, beanies and gloves.

The road to Bunny Flat is open and plowed. Castle Lake Road is closed.
