In sintesi

The storm has commenced. As the day progresses, the avalanche danger will rise. Strong southwesterly winds will form drifts on leeward slopes near and above treeline. Blowing snow and cracking or collapsing in drifted snow are clear warning signs of the problem. Features of concern are ridgelines, gullies, and roll-overs.

    Drifts will form on various old snow surfaces, some of which will have poor bonding capabilities. Cross-loading will be occurring at upper elevations, and drifts could slowly form in or near more sheltered areas. Wind can transport snow faster than it can fall from the sky. Over the next 72 hours, this problem will increase in size and sensitivity. By today's end, drifts 10 inches thick could be possible. Watch and observe for signs of wind effect. Maintain caution, as being swept off your feet and carried into exposed rocks and trees is a real concern.

These storms will help improve conditions. Nevertheless, we're nowhere near to open season and injury from buried obstacles remains a major threat. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

These storms are coming in with a warming to cooling trend. This is ideal and will help promote a sturdy and right side up snowpack.
