Mount Shasta
Pericolo valanghe

Avalanches are unlikely today, but watch for signs of wet loose slides near and below treeline in steep south facing terrain, especially near rocks. Roller ball snow and pin wheels are signs of this problem. Falling ice is a serious hazard above treeline in steep terrain. Stay out from underneath steep slopes that have ice-plastered rock overhead, especially if the sun is warming the ice.
Avalanche Discussion
We are going to be in the batters box for a little while, enjoying that beautiful California sun. Take the time to refurbish some gear, nurse some wounds, wax those skis again and catch a breath from the fantastic December of snow sports. All roads and recreation areas are open. These include: Everitt Memorial Highway/Bunny Flat, Sand Flat Winter Trails, Castle Lake area, and Pilgrim Creek and Deer Mountain Snowmobile Parks. As we see increasing numbers populate these areas, responsible recreation is becoming important. This means having respect for fellow users, picking up your trash, cleaning up your campfire ash in the parking lot, etc. It's likely that the next person in line loves this place as much as you do. Mt. Shasta is a special place. Keep it pro out there.
