In sintesi

Riders have the highest chance of triggering a wind slab above treeline on steep W-S-E aspects below cliff bands, rock outcroppings, or narrow chutes where the snowpack is thinner. Heed caution to larger connecting terrain features and use clues like scoured ridgelines, wind lips, and cornices to help determine areas to avoid.

Cross-loaded slopes and pockets of wind slabs have the potential to be quite deep and remain the paramount hazard. Above-freezing temperatures overnight and into today will increase stress on the snowpack. The snowpack does not like rapid changes, so remember to monitor your surroundings for signs of unstable snow and warming effects. If you see something, say something.

Avalanche Discussion

  • The Everitt Memorial Highway and Castle Lake roads remain closed. Siskiyou County is working to clear the roads ASAP.
  • Always feel free to drop us an observation on what you saw or experienced.  A sentence or two goes a long way.
  • Sun protection is becoming essential these days as the sun climbs higher in the sky and is out for longer periods of time.
