In sintesi

Several inches of new snow and W-NW wind combined yesterday and formed fresh wind slabs.  Continue to use caution on steep slopes near ridges and slopes below cornices where small wind slabs may linger. Overall, the danger is LOW, but that doesn't mean NO danger. Small avalanches in isolated areas or extreme terrain are possible.

A bit of new snow and moderate W-NW winds cooked up a few small wind slabs and cornice growth in the Castle Lake area yesterday. Use caution in steep terrain. Lingering slabs could be possible and big enough to knock a rider off their feet and into undesirable terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

We are going to be in the batters box for a little while, enjoying that beautiful California sun. Take the time to refurbish some gear, nurse some wounds, wax those skis again and catch a breath from the fantastic December of snow sports. All roads and recreation areas are open. These include: Everitt Memorial Highway/Bunny Flat, Sand Flat Winter Trails, Castle Lake area, and Pilgrim Creek and Deer Mountain Snowmobile Parks. As we see increasing numbers populate these areas, responsible recreation is becoming important. This means having respect for fellow users, picking up your trash, cleaning up your campfire ash in the parking lot, etc. It's likely that the next person in line loves this place as much as you do. Mt. Shasta is a special place. Keep it pro out there.
