In sintesi

Increasing westerly wind combined with a few inches of fresh snow is the primary concern today. Slabs of wind drifted snow could fail in places where wind-blown snow has piled up. Pay attention to red flags of avalanche danger as you gain elevation near and above treeline.

Westerly wind will increase this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow. There is snow on the ground, and snow that will fall from the sky: both are single and available for a date with the wind. Expected avalanche size is small to medium. In the Eddy Mountains, where wind slabs may rest on older weak layers, more destructive avalanches with wider propagation could occur. Cornices continue to grow. Stay back from the edge, would you please! Learn more about wind slab avalanches HERE.

Avalanche Discussion

  • Everitt Memorial Highway is CLOSED. We've heard a rumor circulating: "the county is just going to let the Everitt Memorial Highway melt out, and has given up on snow removal...". This is not true. The County crew is actively working on clearing the road to the best of the equipment capability. The road will open as soon as possible. No estimation at this time.

  • Pilgrim Creek Snowmobile Park - OPEN
  • Deer Mountain Snowmobile Park - OPEN
