In sintesi

Wind slab avalanches still pose a threat today near and above treeline on steep leeward W-NW-N-NE-E aspects.  Surface clues may not indicate the presence of wind-loaded slopes, especially in or below gullies, depressions, ridgelines, and cliff bands. The use of appropriate travel techniques and minimizing unnecessary exposure will increase your margin of safety today.

Wind won't always harden the snow surface, especially when the snow has gradually been transported to a location over a long period of time. An area may present soft surface conditions with lots of cohesive snow beneath. Look and feel for cohesive snow resting atop weak, softer snow beneath. If you find this, you are in a wind-loaded area with a recipe for an avalanche.
