Highlights

The general avalanche hazard remains CONSIDERABLE. Surface slabs that vary in hardness to greater than two feet in depth that formed during the recent storm cycle lie upon a very weak snowpack. Backcountry riders could trigger these surface slabs that would immediately tear out deeper weak layers in the snowpack resulting in LARGE and DANGEROUS avalanche events. Large avalanches were reported this week throughout the forecast area including slides on Ferry Peak and a slide that put debris with broken trees in it on the Smith's Fork Road near Poker Flats.
