Highlights

Mild temperatures and rain may cause the snowpack to get weaker and will increase the avalanche danger, especially at treeline and below.

Avalanche problems

  • Loose Wet

    • Alpine
    • Treeline
    • Below treeline
    Likelihood
    Unlikely - Possible
    Size
    1–2
Expect the firm melt freeze crust to deteriorate rapidly with the warm rainy conditions in the Forecast. Loose snow avalanches are possible below treeline if we receive heavier than predicted showers.
  • Deep Persistent Slabs

    • Alpine
    • Treeline
    • Below treeline
    Likelihood
    Unlikely - Possible
    Size
    2–4
Large triggers such as cornice failure or serac fall can trigger very large avalanches. Recently, ice fall released a large slab avalanche on a steep north facing glacial slope on Mt Andromeda.
