One was buried six feet deep and a witnessing party successfully probed and recovered him. The other snowmobiler was buried 8 to 10 feet deep and did not survive. Similar avalanche events could be triggered today. Clearing skies after the first significant snowfall of the season have the potential of luring backcountry travelers into hazardous terrain.
