The snowpack is mostly stable, and avalanche hazards will be limited to small wind slabs and loose snow sluffing in very steep avalanche terrain above 9,000 feet. Humans who venture into steep avalanche starting zones and cliff areas could trigger isolated pockets of slab up to a foot in depth and loose snow slides. These small slides can become very dangerous if triggered in serious terrain, like steep couloirs, over cliffs, and above terrain traps. Backcountry travelers should monitor today’s snowfall and wind-loading, especially along high ridges, for areas where small surface slabs may be forming.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )An approaching trough from the northwest will move into the area overnight. This low-pressure system is expected to deliver light snowfall through Friday with 3 to 6 inches of accumulation in the mountains. By morning, there should be a few inches of new snow. Mountain temperatures will start in the teens and then warm into the mid-20s. Southwesterly winds will be in the teens and are expected to lessen throughout the day. The snowpack is mostly stable, and the avalanche hazard is expected to be Low in all the forecast areas. Since early March, the snowpack has undergone many melt-freeze cycles, causing the buried weak layers to become unreactive. The avalanche hazard is limited to surface snow, and at the higher elevations, skiers and riders could encounter small winds slabs up to 18 inches in-depth and loose snow sluffing. These hazards could become dangerous in serious terrain, like steep couloirs, slopes above cliffs, or slopes above terrain traps.
