Pockets of new wind slabs are forming on slick sun crusts and wind pack. Backcountry travelers venturing into steep, wind-loaded terrain above 7,500 feet could trigger these slabs to depths of three to six inches this morning. Continued snowfall and strong westerly ridgetop winds will increase the size and likelihood of triggering these slides as the day progresses. These slabs could have depths of six to 12 inches by this afternoon.
