Pockets of loose, dry snow can still be found in wind-sheltered, northerly terrain features. Elsewhere the surface snow generally consists of firm wind-pressed snow and breakable melt-freeze crusts. The mid snowpack is generally consolidated and sits above a weak, facetted lower snowpack.
