Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

The general avalanche hazard is HIGH. Significant snowfall and strong winds throughout the week have resulted in DANGEROUS AVALANCHE CONDITIONS in the backcountry. In steep wind loaded avalanche terrain, skiers and riders have the potential to trigger soft and hard slab avalanches with total depths to three feet. These slides may also release naturally and will increase in sensitivity as additional snowfall and warming occur today.

Strong southwest winds with averages near thirty miles per hour are expected as moderate to heavy snowfall occurs through the night and into Saturday afternoon. Temperatures are to rise into the upper teens to low twenties. The general avalanche hazard is expected to increase to HIGH during the day on Saturday above 8000 feet in all three forecast areas. Natural avalanches and easily triggered avalanches to depths of four feet are expected in steep wind loaded avalanche terrain as new snow and strong winds add additional loading to the already sensitive slabs.
