No recent avalanches have been reported.
5-10 cm of new snow is forecasted to fall by the end of the day on Wednesday. This covers a generally wind effected alpine, and 50-90 cm of faceting, dry, settled snow at treeline.
The remainder of the snowpack is strong, with numerous hard melt-freeze crusts.
Treeline snow depth ranges from 100 to 180 cm. Snow depth diminishes rapidly at low elevations where there has been more rainfall.
Tuesday Night
Cloudy. 2-6 cm of snow expected, possibly 10 cm or more on the west island. Light south ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature around -3 °C, with possible temperature inversion.
Wednesday
Cloudy morning, possibly clearing by late afternoon. 2-5 cm of new snow expected. Light to moderate northwest ridgetop wind. Temperature inversion breaking down, treeline temperature around -6 °C. Freezing level around 500 m.
Thursday
Mostly cloudy. Light snow expected. Moderate northwest wind switching to southeast and becoming strong. Freezing level around 500 m.
Friday
Cloudy. Wild weather. Mixed precipitation, possibly 10-15 cm of snow on the north and east island above 750-1250 m. 20-40 mm of rain/freezing rain/pellets/snow on the west and south island, freezing levels between 1500 and 2000 m. Extreme south or southwest ridgetop wind.
