Regions: Jasper.

Conditions are improving and confidence is building as the deep persistent instability lays dormant in the snowpack for now.

Snowpack Summary

18 cm total storm snow over the last three days. Stubborn buried windslab found in open areas in top 30cm on N through E lee aspects. The Oct 25 MFcr is between 2-5cm thick and down as much as 80cm, most prominent on N-NE lee features. Hard collapsing failure observed 10cm below this crust. Early season hazards still present, and hazardous!

Avalanche Summary

Mostly dry loose activity observed from steeper solar terrain.

Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Buried windslab on lee features. Westerly aspects will likely be stripped bare from previous transport.
Use caution in lee and cross-loaded terrain near ridge crests.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 1.5

Deep Persistent Slabs

Assume all skiable slopes have this layer, and assess the strength of the interface before jumping into a committing lines.
Watch for whumpfing, hollow sounds, and shooting cracks.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2
