A layer of surface hoar is growing on a thick melt-freeze crust that covers the snow surface at all elevations. The exception may be shaded north facing alpine terrain where dry snow might still be found.
The mid and lower snowpack is well consolidated, with several well-bonded crusts scattered throughout.
Snow depth at treeline ranges from 150 to 250 cm, tapering quickly at lower elevations below treeline.
