The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE above 9,000 feet and LOW below that elevation. At the higher elevations, a remote chance continues to trigger deep hard slabs in isolated steep avalanche paths. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 9,000 feet.
Weak snow persists near the base of the snowpack. In isolated areas, dangerous hard slabs with depths to 40 inches could be human triggered on this layer. This basal weakness is limited in distribution and is most likely to be found in the higher elevations along the east slope of the Wyoming Range.
( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Dry conditions are expected overnight and into the morning hours on Tuesday. A weak disturbance could move in during the afternoon and evening and bring several inches of new snow to the higher elevations by Wednesday morning. Temperatures are forecast to fall into the teens tonight and rise into the 20s in the mountains and into the 30s in the valleys during the day. Winds will be light and variable.The snowpack is mostly stable with a few concerns at the upper elevations in all three of our forecast areas. In the Teton Range, isolated pockets of shallow wind slab less than foot in depth could be human triggered in very steep terrain at the upper elevations. In the Greys River area there are isolated locations at the upper elevations where some potential to trigger deep slab avalanches may persist. In the Togwotee Pass area some potential may also persist for snowmobiles to trigger deep hard slab avalanches in some steep upper elevation avalanche paths. The general avalanche is expected to be LOW in the Teton area and MODERATE in the Greys River and Togwotee Pass areas.
