The alpine rating is considerable, the treeline rating is moderate, and the below treeline rating is low. Known problems include Wind Slabs and Deep Persistent Slabs.

Tuesday's storm dumped 20 cm of snow around the Marmot area and less in other areas.  Bigger avalanches can be expected on slopes in the Northern portion of the forecast area.

Summary

Weather Forecast

Seasonal temperatures and good overnight recovery through the week with partly sunny skies and little precipitation.  A system coming in on the weekend may bring 20 cm.  A nice Easter present!!!

Snowpack Summary

Up 20 cm storm snow fell around Marmot on Tuesday, less in other areas of the Park.  Mod to Strong winds SW winds at Alpine and Treeline have created thick windslabs on a temperature crust that can be found on all aspects up to 2500m. A weak basal facet layer is present in most areas at treeline and above. Large cornices exist at ridge line.

Large cornices or surface avalanches are the likely trigger for this deep persistent weak layer.
Be aware of thin areas that may propogate to deeper instabilites.Give cornices a wide berth when travelling on or below ridges.
