Weather Forecast

Monday another ridge of high pressure enters our region, breaking up the weak pacific disturbance allowing for the possibility of sunnier skies.  The northern edge of a mini pineapple express is set move in Monday night bringing rising freezing levels and moderate precipitation by Tuesday.  Monday's moderate to strong north west winds will become strong out of the west by Tuesday.  Overnight into Monday:  Overnight light snowfall is possible, especially in the south of the region. Sunny with cloudy periods on Monday.  Winds moderate to strong out of the north west at ridge top.  Freezing level 1500m.Tuesday: Cloudy, light to moderate accumulations possible, moderate to strong winds out of the west.  Freezing level rising throughout the day to 2000m. Wednesday:  Another system approaches from the coast with chance of more precipitation.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanche reported today.  This may speak to the lack of observers out in the area, rather than the actual avalanche conditions.

Snowpack Summary

Large surface hoar has been reported growing in the forecast area.  In some very sheltered areas there is a chance of it being covered by some wind transported snow.  Loose snow continues to be transported by strong down flow and north westerly winds, it is suspected that these are forming wind slabs in lee terrain and spill zones. At treeline 20-70cm below the surface is a supportive rain crust that exists up to 1900m. The lack of reports involving this interface suggests an improving bond.Below this the mid and lower pack are well settled and strong.  Below treeline, the snowpack that was moist on Saturday, was more supportive on Sunday with cooler temperatures, winds and cloudy skies.
