Highlights

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE today. New soft surface slabs to a foot in depth lie in higher start zones that may be triggered today by backcountry users. Under this new snow hard slabs one to three feet in depth lie upon weak layers of buried surface hoar and faceted snow. These deeper slabs could be triggered today in cliff areas and in steep wind loaded starting zones of avalanche paths. Skiers or riders could cross a slab multiple times before a trigger spot is hit and the slope fails. On Friday a snowmobiler was caught in the Snake River range when two riders, one stuck, were on the slope at the same time.
