People have been getting after it in the mountains, and have certainly been testing the stability. It is good for Feb, but not exceptional. 5-10cm of snow Monday evening (E. of divide) will start to bury the surface hoar which is widespread. SH

Avalanche problems

  • Wind Slabs

    • Alpine
    • Treeline
    • Below treeline
    Likelihood
    Possible
    Size
    2–3
Isolated wind slabs in the high alpine are still triggerable in steep terrain. Thinner snowpack areas in steep, gully sidewalls and unsupported slopes will be most vulnerable.
  • Cornices

    • Alpine
    • Treeline
    • Below treeline
    Likelihood
    Possible - Likely
    Size
    2–3
Strong winds from earlier in the month have created large cornices on lee (mostly easterly) aspects. Several large cornice collapses have been observed over the past week. These cornices could be a big enough to trigger a deep slab.
