Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Mostly clear skies are expected Saturday night into Sunday as high pressure builds into the area, which will also bring very cold temperatures. Overnight lows in the mountains are expected to dip into the negative teens before rising into the positive single digits on Sunday. Valley lows should also be in the negative teens and then climb to near 10 during the day. Northwesterly ridgetop winds will back to the west at 10 to 20 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain CONSIDERABLE in the mountains and LOW in the valleys. Deep slab instability will persist on a variety of aspects above 7,500 feet. Backcountry travelers venturing into avalanche terrain could trigger dangerous hard slabs up to six feet in depth along with dense surface slabs up to two feet in depth. Conservative decision making, combined with excellent terrain evaluation and route finding skills, will be essential for safe travel in avalanche terrain.
