The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Pockets of soft slab up to 18 inches deep formed by southwest winds lie upon good sliding surfaces, and could be triggered on steep wind loaded slopes. These slabs will become more sensitive as the day warms. In addition, deep slab instabilities persist. The potential remains for snowmobilers to trigger full depth avalanches on steep slopes, failing on a base of weak, faceted snow. Finally, any valley rain will bring about the possibility of wet slides at the lower elevations in areas where the snowpack still exists.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The Pacific disturbance moving towards Western Wyoming is expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of new snow to the mountains overnight, with an additional 1 to 3 inches during the day on Sunday. Upper elevation temperatures should dip into the teens overnight before rising into the mid 20s on Sunday. The valley should experience below freezing lows Saturday night before rising into the upper 30s during the day. Southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph are projected to veer to the West by Sunday morning.The General Avalanche Hazard in the TETON area is expected to remain LOW. New snowfall and Southwesterly winds will build upon the existing soft slabs. If triggered, these surface slabs have the potential of sweeping backcountry travelers over cliffbands or into terrain traps. In the unfortunate event of valley rain, wet slides will be possible at the lower elevations below the freezing line.In the CONTINENTAL DIVIDE/TOGWOTEE PASS area, the General Avalanche Hazard is expected to remain MODERATE. The deep slab instability problem persists on steep avalanche prone slopes and carries severe consequences.The General Avalanche Hazard in the SOUTHWEST TRAILS/GREYS RIVER area is expected to remain MODERATE.
